Rage RC Beechcraft Model 17 Staggerwing RC Plane
During the Great Depression of the 1930’s, aircraft executive Walter H. Been and designer T.A. Wells partnered to develop a powerful, large cabin biplane designed for business executives. The original Beechcraft Model 17 was popularly known as the “Staggerwing” because of the unusual negative stagger wing configuration (the upper wing staggered behind the lower). The D17 Model version was an update that included a longer fuselage, retractable landing gear, and ailerons on the upper wing. By the beginning of WWII, the D17 had captured a substantial share of the passenger aircraft market, partially due to the large, luxurious cabin, but mainly because of its speed. The Model D17’s speed also made it a popular choice for 1930 air racer’s. An early version of the original Model 17 won the 1933 Texaco Trophy race and in the 1937 Bendix Trophy Race, Jackie Cochran set the women’s speed record of 328km/h while also establishing an altitude record of over 9,144m in a special model D17W.
The Rage RC Beechcraft Model 17 “Staggerwing” provides smooth, capable flight performance (either indoors or outdoors in light winds) that’s ideal for experienced pilots due to extremely light wing-loading. This model faithfully captures the character of the original D17 with scale features that include a highly detailed radial engine, a symmetrical airfoil wind design with rib details, flying wires, an authentic scale trim scheme, flaps, and a retractable undercarriage (landing gear).
The micro Beechcraft Model D17 comes fully assembled as a Ready-To-Fly model. Everything needed to fly the RC scale plane is included in the box. The electronics arrive pre-installed in the scale airframe, such as a 4-in-1 control board, individual servos to control the ailerons and retracts, and a 2.4GHz transmitter that conveniently charges the included 200mAh LiPo Battery. Even the AA batteries needed to power the transmitter are included, so you can be making your maiden flight on this amazingly detailed, historic airplane within minutes of opening the box.
